Sylence Campbell is a poet I met online, through Ryze Networking.
Through her website, Stirring The Sky (www.shadowpoets.com) and her encouragement, I have rediscovered an art form I only briefly experimented with in the past.
A sampling of my poetry has been published in an anthology showcasing the poetry of The Shadow Poets. It came out in mid February 2004. Sylence also has a book showcasing her work exclusively entitled The Sounds of Sylence. Both books are published by Crystal Dreams Publishing (www.crystaldreamspub.com).

FOR THE LOVE OF NATURE

Within the simple designs of nature's complexity, things of beauty
can be found.
Like the way the earth's offspring finds harmony in its demise.

Like the way tall grass gives way to the wind.
Like the way a gentle breeze carries the weary leaf.
Like the way the leaf settles upon tired grass.

And they fade,
In unity,
No less impressive (to the observant)
Than the loud hues of Fall.

Then, in one last display of wonder,
Adorned in fine frosted dress
And with living fire gone,
Winter freezes their awe.

As do I,

For the love of nature.

LAYOVER DELAY

Sea of Voices murmuring

with mixed emotion.

Frustration leading to

anger to melancholy acceptance.

 Dozens of voices mumble

back and forth.

All itching for Newark.

Who would have thought such a pit

could be sought with such desire.

The familiarity of known scum

Outweighing the unknown of ethnic beauty.

The irony, it amuses me.

For while I long for home,

I prefer the sleepy fisherman's coves

of Halifax, and the voice I have come to love.
